The client may:
The artist may:
- Scientific illustration: I am happy to draw virtually any scientific subject as long as visual references are available. Drawing from life is possible if the client covers the resulting shipping and return cost.
- Character and scenery art: Complex designs and environments will result in a higher price, but I will happily draw any character type. If no visual references are available, I can work with a detailed description. Copyrighted characters can only be drawn with the owner's explicit permission.
- General: I do not imitate the styles of others. I refuse realistic military themes, culturally appropriative imagery, and well as anything condoning racism, homo-/transphobia, etc, and I reserve the right to refuse work for any reason.
Process
Custom work:
- Quote: The client contacts me with the details of their idea to receive a unique quote. Quotes are valid for 6 months. Deadlines closer than 2 weeks can be arranged for a rush-fee. After agreeing to proceed, the client receives their PayPal invoice. If not paid in 48 hours, a given slot may be given to someone else.
- Sketch: I roughly sketch the piece out for approval, making up to 3 rounds of any major revisions requested.
- Updates: Depending on the complexity of the work, the client may be contacted with further updates where they may request up to 3 rounds of minor revisions free of charge. Additional rounds of minor revisions can be arranged for a fee, capping at 6 total.
- Completion: The client is sent the finished artwork as an image file: a PNG at 600dpi by default, though any image format supported by Clip Studio Paint may be requested. Image resolution is as I see fit unless preferences are specified by the client at or before the sketch stage. Artwork is signed with the names or chosen aliases of the artist, the client, and the original character owner if applicable. I guarantee delivery of private work within a maximum of 3 months or before a given deadline, unless delayed by exceptional circumstances such as extra revisions or slow client communication. Artwork might not be archived and the client is responsible for keeping the final files safe after completion.
Streamlined work:
- In streamlined work, work with a set price such as YCH commissions, finished work is delivered after the invoice is paid, skipping any sketch approval stages, and one round of revisions may be requested free of charge. Up to 3 additional rounds of minor revisions can be arranged for a fee. Completion terms are as for custom work.
Payment
- Invoice: Payment takes place via PayPal invoice. Fees are all-inclusive. The client must be 18+ years old and own the account used to pay. Payment is due up front. Invoices for digital artwork include digital goods only.
- Refunds: If the client terminates a project which is already underway or is dissatisfied with the product despite revisions, they are entitled to a refund, the maximum of which is 50% of the total price agreed upon, including any revision fees. Depending on how much work has gone into the art already, the amount I am able to refund may be less, with a minimum of 10%. If I terminate the project at any point, the client receives a 100% refund. Upon cancellation and refunding of a project, all rights to any work already completed return to the artist, and the client may not use or reproduce it in any way. If I fail to meet a given deadline for reasons outside the client's control, I issue a 100% refund and continue to complete the work should the client wish.
- Commercial use: For work intended for commercial use by the client, additional conditions are agreed upon on a case by case basis. For example, if the client wishes for me to relinquish my copyright permanently, the price will be multiplied by a factor of 5-12 depending on the scale of the enterprise. This would be discussed together.
Rights (unless other terms for commercial use have been agreed upon)
- None of my work is ever to be associated with non-fungible tokens, blockchain technology, generative artificial-intelligence/machine-learning technology, or the like.
The client may:
- Upload work to online platforms and crop or scale work to use as an icon, banner, or the like. If, in such a context, the work is cropped or scaled in a way which renders the artist's name in the signature difficult or impossible to read, the artist must be credited in the corresponding bio, title, image description, or similar field with a link to my social media or website.
- Outside of the aforementioned cropping and scaling, my work may not be edited/modified by another artist, the client, or technological means such as filters. Should changes be needed, please reach out to me.
- Reproduce work for personal, non-commercial use.
The artist may:
- Use work in online and physical galleries and portfolios.
- Use the work commercially, including in advertisements and merchandise (such as art books, prints, etc.)
- If, when published, the work is modified in a way which renders the client's/original character owner's name in the signature difficult or impossible to read, they must be credited in the corresponding bio, title, image description, or similar field.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions via email ([email protected]) or social media. While this contract is the default, I'm open to negotiation.
